CASQUINHA (Rio de Janeiro, December 1, 1922)

            Otto Enrique Trepte was born in the suburb of Ricardo de Albuquerque, north of the city, son of a German immigrant Paul Trepte with the beautiful samba singer Ignês. At the age of 18, living in Oswaldo Cruz, his initial passion was soccer, even playing in second division clubs such as Casquinha, his childhood nickname. Working as a banker, he frequented Portela from time to time, becoming a friend and partner of Master Candeia. In 1953, his samba Vem Amor was recorded, on the label Musidisc, by Avelino de Andrade (the "golden crooner" of Portela).

Almost thereafter, he joined the composers' wing of the school, being one of the winners of the 1959 parade with the samba plot Brasil Pantheon de Glória (co-author of Bubu, Candeia, Waldir 59 and Picolino).

In 1965, member of the group Messengers of Samba da Portela (with Candeia, Bubú and Picolino), he made his debut in the music market with LP A Vez do Morro (Polydor label), when he included: Sinhá, Sinhá (with Candeia ), When I called and changed my opinion (those with Bubú), Mulata (with David do Pandeiro), If I Could (with Picolino). In 1970, he participated as an instrumentalist (deaf) of the inaugural album Passado de Glória (seal RGE) of the Old Guard of Portela, along with the brothers Aniceto, Manacéa and Mijinha, Chico Santana, Alberto Lonato, among others. From then on, he became a real figure in the other records: Velha Guarda da Portela: great samba series "Doce Remembrance" (Kuarup / Nikita 1986/2000), Tribute to Paulo da Portela (Ideia Livre / Nikita, 1988/2001), Tudo Blue (EMI, 2000). Still in the 70's, with the group Party in 5 (accompanied by Candeia, Wilson Moreira, Velha da Portela, among others), he recorded the three initial anthologies albums (Tapecar label, 1975/77) interpreting of his Black Is black in color, but is blond in hair / when she enters the samba, there is almost always outrage ...), Dendeca de Briga (with Jorge However), Open Sign, Advanced Crown (with Dolino) I'll make you an appeal: do you want to own my home? Take care of your hair more ...), The Old Guard of Portela and Cantor de Sacola.

Finally, in 2001, he was contemplated with his solo solo album Casquinha da Portela (Lua Discos), where he plays in his syncopated style pearls such as: Maria Sambamba (... I have already been told that a fake folio embarrassed / up to a million I would spend / to conquer Sambamba ...), the classic partnership with Paulinho da Viola Recado (with special participation of Aldir Blanc), Baiana Took My Tamborim, Samba Has No Color (... samba is pure, samba is Done with love / if someone says otherwise, it does not matter, do not get angry / samba is not in color, but in blood). Currently living in Bangu with his daughter Monica, son-in-law and two granddaughters, he feels happy and proud With the participation of Monarco, Zeca Pagodinho, Beth Carvalho, Paulinho da Viola and Mauro Diniz (the director of the significant event), with the release of the DVD Casquinha da Portela: The Samba No Tem Cor, recorded in 2014 at Portelão.

Casquinha, composer of creative and diversified repertoire, rhythmist, singer, emeritus partisan, always modest, generous and playful nature, never realized its importance in the history of dear Portela and of the Brazilian popular music itself. Among many interpreters of his work, besides those already mentioned, it is worth mentioning: Luiz Carlos da Vila, João Nogueira, Candeia, Nara Leão, Jair Rodrigues, Elza Soares, Dudu Nobre, Cristina Buarque, Clara Nunes and many more.
